‘Gotham Knights’ is an open-world action game set in the fictional Gotham City, home to the now-deceased Batman. It is up to Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin to pick up the mantle and protect the city against the criminals and villains who have overrun the streets.
The game is rated Advisory 16 (Suitable for 16 & Above).
The player will control and can swap between one of the four superheroes to explore the vast city from a third-person perspective. The protagonists can traverse on foot or utilise vehicles and gadgets (gliders, grappling hooks) to move quickly between locations. Various missions require them to defeat enemies or investigate areas, search for clues and solve puzzles. When coming across criminal activities, they can engage enemies in combat, or sneak up on an isolated enemy for an instant takedown. Generally, the player can either take a direct approach to openly engage enemies, or employ stealth and try to take out enemies individually in order to avoid raising the alarm and being attacked by numerous adversaries at once.
There are frequent depictions of violence, where player characters use melee attacks (punches, kicks and weapon strikes), projectiles as well as gadgets to fight enemies. In some scenes, bloodstains can be seen on surfaces, corpses and characters. Stronger scenes depict characters pierced by an arrow or impaled by blades. Investigative sequences may depict close-up views of corpses. The Advisory 16 guidelines allow “realistic but not excessively graphic violence with depiction of blood.”
The game’s dialogue contains the use of crude words. These include “asshole”, “bastard”, “bitch” and “shit”.
