‘Doom: The Dark Ages’ is a sci-fi action game that follows the rise of the protagonist known as the Doom Slayer. He has been called to protect a kingdom being invaded by demonic forces from Hell.
The game is rated M18 for violence and gore.
The player controls the Doom Slayer from a first-person perspective to take on hordes of demons and monsters in melee combat with various medieval weapons and a shield-saw. The protagonist can also employ guns and a rocket launcher, pilot a giant Mech and ride a dragon to confront enemies.
There are frequent depictions of violence and gore during gameplay. Blood splatters when enemies are struck, and they can explode in a burst of blood and body parts leaving bloodstains on surfaces such as the ground, the protagonist’s weapons and visor. When enemies take sufficient damage, they can enter a “dazed” state allowing the player to execute a Gory Kill, which results in the enemy being bisected, dismembered or disembowelled. During exploration, the player may encounter corpses and body parts strewn about in the hellish environments. Under the M18 rating, “depictions of realistic violence, such as killing, maiming or causing other serious injury to humanoid characters” can be allowed.
An enemy character can appear nude in one sequence. Aside from its buttocks, there are no details of nudity shown.
