“Reanimal” is a horror adventure platformer game which revolves around two siblings on a dark island. The pair contends with various disturbing beings to try and survive, so that they can rescue their missing friends and escape the place.
The game is rated M18 for violence.
Played from a side-scrolling perspective, the player will take control of one protagonist at a time to navigate dim and dilapidated areas like sewers, tunnels, buildings, rooms and streets. Exploration can be undertaken through various means such as piloting a boat or vehicle, or travelling on foot. Gameplay involves solving puzzles by manipulating objects and items such as switches and keys to access new areas while avoiding environmental hazards. The player character can use weapons like a gun, cannon, rocket launcher, knife and crowbar to attack various humanoid and creature adversaries, or try to evade and flee from them to progress. Dialogue scenes intersperse gameplay to advance the narrative of the game.
Guts, body parts, and corpses can be encountered during exploration. These are accompanied by depictions of horror and a sustained sense of threat with ominous sound effects, where ghastly-looking figures confront other characters in dim settings. There are some scenes of violence during combat, where characters engage in melee and ranged attacks exchanging physical blows and gunfire. Stronger scenes depict characters getting their heads bitten off, a person shooting himself in the head resulting in his decapitation, and others being blown apart with entrails shown in the aftermath, or getting obliterated after being shot with blood splattering on the ground. Under the M18 Classification Guidelines, “depictions of realistic violence, such as killing, maiming or causing other serious injury to humanoid characters” are permitted.
There are some portrayals of nude bodies in non-sexual contexts with no explicit details of nudity shown.
